I have been using Google Chrome for more than over an year. First it was on my Windows 7 desktop and then on my brand new Dell studio laptop.
It runs great on my desktop but crashes often and i mean very often on my laptop. Whenever I would try to open twitter some index page file gets downloaded, If I open a site with facebook connect or facebook fan module, a file named fan gets downloaded. I tried everything from clearing cache , history, cookies and even uninstalling and reinstalling Google chrome, but no use.
I decided to dig deep and compared with my desktop and found that Internet Download Manager is the culprit. Just disable Advanced integration in Internet download manager and have fun and crash free experience.
Two days since any crashes and I am in love with Google Chrome again.

Steps:
1. Open Internet Download Manager and goto Downloads menu.
2. Goto options and then in General Tab.

idm Google chrome crashes on facebook and twitter or index and fan page is downloaded?

3. Uncheck Google Chrome in the advanced integration box.
4. Have Fun !

WTF? I am so confused. All I can find on “Internet Download Manager” (In Windows 7) is just the Internet Explorer on board manager for accepting or denying downloads on INTERNET EXPLORER, not chrome. There are no options to uncheck other programs, there is no “integrated download” option, it’s just a toggle box for “notify me when download is done” ALL about Internet Explorer.

This doesn’t help me with Chrome AT ALL, and there are SEVERAL help forums which point to this page. WTF? Are you using 8 or something? Because that’s not how it works in 7. Specify your OS please.
